Clear Messaging in Video
Video is a powerful medium that resonates with audiences, quickly conveying complex ideas both visually and audibly.
However, video’s impact can be a double-edged sword.
Like the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words,” video can tell the right story - or unintentionally send the wrong message.
To avoid this, it’s essential to plan and simplify.
Below is a video I produced for Habitat for Humanity Canada. The goal: to show how Habitat impacts low-income Canadians through community support, donations, and the commitment of homeowners who help build their own homes. View the video below to see if we achieved this messaging goal.
Crafting clear messaging for video is challenging. It’s tempting to add flashy elements or adopt popular styles like “a Wes Anderson look” that may distract from the core message. Instead, aim for clarity and simplicity—simple isn’t easy, but it’s effective.
For your next video, keep these principles in mind:
Define Your Audience – Know who you’re speaking to. [Learn more about defining your audience here].
Develop a Clear Message – Take the time to clarify what you want to say.
Keep It Simple – Avoid distractions; ensure each element serves your message.
